Having solo travel in Africa is a great way to practise self-care. While there are many fears about traveling alone, it is just perfect to destress from your daily routine and all the hustle and bustle of life. If you’re seeking to go on a solo trip, you’re just in luck! Here’s a visual guide on the hottest travel destinations in Africa.

Okavango Delta, Botswana

The Okavango Delta is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and is rightfully named so. The delta is one of the largest stretches of inland deltas in the world totaling between 6,000 to 15,000 square kilometres. Apart from the beautiful scenery, you also get to have a free view of about 260,000 exotic animals that cluster about the delta during the dry season. You can also explore the region in a mukoro (local canoe) during the wet season. Regardless of whatever time you choose to visit the Okavango Delta, you’re sure to have a swell time.

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The Victoria Falls is a beautiful waterfall that flows down the Zambezi River (the largest river in Africa) in Zambia. The best time to visit is right after the rainy season when the water flows are still strong. The body of water is so grand that it is listed among the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The fall has 550 million liters of water flowing every minute, making a roaring sound as it rushes down the 305 feet cliff. Little wonder the native people named it Mosi-oa-Tunya which translates to “smoke that thunders”. The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a UNESCO tourist center that currently houses the Victoria Falls. You can take a helicopter flight over the fall for a wholesome aerial view. Imagine going on a solo trip in such a spectacular sight. Absolutely phenomenal!

Marrakesh, Morocco

Another great solo travel in Africa location idea is Marrakesh. Marrakesh is an exquisite city in Western Morocco rich in culture, colours and music. There are many tourist centres you can explore including the Le Jardin Secret, Be Dazzled by Bahia Palace, Badi Palace, and the Majorelle Gardens. You can also shop in the Medina Souks or take a hot air balloon ride across the Medina. What’s so special about the city is that you can never run out of activities. While the city is quite safe for solo travelers, you should note that it is very busy and conservative so you should be alert and dress decently.

Sossusvlei, Namibia

Sossusvlei is a salt pan in the Namib Desert in Namibia. It also refers to the region around the desert which is one of the prettiest places in Africa. Taking a solo trip there is so therapeutic that it should be top of the list in everyone’s idea of selfcare. There are different landmarks that you can visit while in the area. You can relish the dunes of Sesriem, Big Daddy, Hiddenvlei, Dune 45

or Elim Dune. Namibia is a peaceful country and is one of the go-to places for tourists in Africa. The Namibian people are also very warm so you can rest assured of a wonderful time in their country.

Zanzibar, Tanzania

Zanzibar is one of the most popular travel destinations in Africa. In fact, this list would be incomplete without it. It lies in the Unguja island in Tanzania with several other islands. This means that you should go along with a bikini or swimwear for a superb time in the water. The place is not just famous for its water but its spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper and clove. While in Zanzibar, there are endless places to visit including Cheetah’s Rock, Nungwi Beach, Prison Island, Stone Island and Nakupenda Beach Nature Reserve.

Wherever you go, be sure to experience a truly beautiful island with clear water.

Traveling alone may be daunting but it is a very soothing experience. Take a solo trip to any of these destinations for an amazing selfcare vacation.
